The lord carried that old rugged cross
until his legs gave asunder
but
on the path that led to the hill
the load he carried was heavier than lumber
He carried my sins and yours as well
but he didn't turn back and
quit
he walked on and stumbled up that hill
and at the end of the cross he
said "that is it"
It is finished he cried, and gave up the ghost
and set men free from
their sins
So when you are laden down on your road
remember he did it
first for all men
The path to the hill where he laid down his life
was a trail of his
precious blood
but he gave it all so we could be free
and have a home with
him up above
